From January 1st, vehicles that do not pass the pollution test will be fined 1 lakh. The Department of Environment under the Ministry of Forests has warned that vehicles that do not pass the pollution test after the 1st of January will be fined up to 1 lakh rupees according to subsection 2 of section 41 of the Environment Protection Act, 2076.
Also, it has requested all the transport businessmen to repair the vehicles and make them pollute only up to the limit of the specified standards.
In a recent random inspection conducted by the department, the condition of smoke emission of vehicles operating in Kathmandu valley was found to be very poor. In the coming days, the department is going to intensively and effectively test the condition of smoke emission of vehicles. At present, the vehicles which are polluting more than the prescribed standards during the smoke test on the vehicles were given the opportunity to repair them once and keep the condition in good condition.
It is said in the statement, "It is requested that any vehicle that fails to pass the pollution inspection pass may be inspected by the environment department at any time and the green or other sticker issued earlier as the pollution inspection pass has expired, and fines and other actions will be taken according to the mentioned provisions."
Also, if someone is burning garbage openly in their village or neighborhood, they have also requested to inform the environment department about it. During the winter season, the air pollution situation is getting worse in many places of the country including Kathmandu Valley. Among the main factors of air pollution, smoke emitted from vehicles and smoke emitted from open burning of garbage are the main causes, so the department has taken strict action.

It is requested that the vehicles that do not pass the pollution inspection pass may be inspected by the environment department at any time and even if the green or other stickers issued earlier as pollution inspection pass are still valid, fines and other actions will be taken according to the mentioned provisions. Also, if someone is burning garbage openly in their village or neighborhood, they are requested to inform the environment department about it. It has also been informed that the identity of the person giving such information will be kept secret and that the culprit will be prosecuted according to the rules.
