The Madhesi Commission has decided to remove Tharu and Muslims from the list of Madhesi communities. Dr. Vijaykumar Dutt, Chairman of the Commission, said that the commission held a meeting on 20th Masinar and decided to remove the Tharu in sub-group 1 and Muslims in sub-group 2 from the Madhesi Surname Study Report-2078 in Nepal.

Sabita Dangol, deputy secretary of the commission, has sent a letter to the office of the prime minister and the council of ministers to implement the decision of the Madhesi commission. Various associations of the Tharu and Muslim communities filed a complaint with the Madhesi Commission not to place them in the Madhesi cluster because the Tharu and Muslim communities have separate identities and civilizations and do not mix with the Madhesi community. He said that he decided to remove Muslims from Madhesi.
